On 1 March 2022, Veena will speak at Science & Technology Australia's "Science Meets Parliament" multi-day event that brings scientists and technologists together with Parliamentarians at scale.
Science meets Parliament is the single largest vehicle for deep engagement between the nation’s STEM sector and policy decision-makers.
Each year, STA brings hundreds of STEM professionals to the nation’s capital to deepen their knowledge of how to engage with decision-makers in a high quality training program.
The event then hosts a series of meetings between scientists and MPs and Senators, along with social functions to build the relationships between the sectors. In 2021, the event attracted 326 delegates and engaged 67 MPs and Senators.
Veena will join Professor Brian Schmidt, Mr Harry Godber, Anna Maria Arabia and session chair Dr Karen Lee-Wadell for a panel discussion to share insights into "preparing to meet a Parliamentarian or advisor", and she will talk about this in the context of some of her own UNSW SMaRT Centre engagements across decision makers and industry.
