2023 UNSW Celebration of Research Excellence

On 5 September 2023, UNSW SMaRT Centre Director, Professor Veena, will deliver a keynote speech at the 2023 UNSW Celebration of Research Excellence.

She will share her experience in translating research into commercial application, her vision for a sustainable future, highlight the importance of creating a circular economy and how using waste as a resource - including various UNSW SMaRT Centre recycling innovations - must be at the centre of innovative decarbonisation efforts.

About this event

This is the first the Celebration of Research Excellence has been held since 2019 and it is a timely opportunity to bring together the UNSW research community to recognise and showcase achievements across the full spectrum of research, thought leadership, translation and impact.

The event will celebrate the successes of UNSW’s standout researchers, including funding recipients, opinion leaders and prize winners, and in particular will recognise the work of some of our early to mid-career research leaders.

Speakers include:

• Associate Professor Fatemeh Vafaee, School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences, winner of the Women in AI’s 2023 AI in Health award
• Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla, School of Materials Science & Engineering, recipient of the Australian Research Council's inaugural Industry Laureate Fellowship
