National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) STEM Hub

On 18 July 2024, UNSW SMaRT Centre Director Prof Veena will deliver a keynote speech at the UNSW-hosted National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) STEM Hub.

Veena will share her vision for a sustainable future, creating a circular economy and how using waste as a resource - including via various UNSW SMaRT Centre technologies - must be at the centre of our manufacturing future and innovative decarbonisation efforts, and the role of the Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub.

Ensuring materials sustainability and using waste as a manufacturing feedstock resource via new technologies are key messages Veena will impart to the Year 11 high school event participants.

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) STEM Hubs are designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.

Come along and see first hand how materials and their structures can be altered through the magic of liquid nitrogen! Let us show you through a variety of demonstrations the wonderful world of Materials Science and Engineering. We will also have a display from our innovative SMaRT centre, showcasing all the amazing work they are doing to make materials more sustainable and the new and creative ways they recycle existing materials. Best part is you'll get to finish off the workshop with your very own tasty home made liquid nitrogen ice-cream, made before your very eyes. Educational and delicious.
