On 8 March 2023, Prof Veena will speak at the Celebrating [STEMM] Women event at UNSW as part of International Women's Day 2023.
Veena will talk about her journey to leading the UNSW SMaRT Centre and a range of national research programs, her vision for a sustainable future, and the importance of creating a circular economy and how using waste as a resource must be at the centre of innovative decarbonisation efforts.

Each year the 8th of March provides an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. International Women’s Day has become a collaborative effort of people across the globe calling for action to accelerate women’s equality.
This year, the UN Women Australia’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future’.
Innovation is a driver of change and by embracing modern technologies and championing the unique skills and knowledge of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM), we can accelerate our progress towards a gender equal future.
