Sydney Energy Forum

On 12 July 2022, UNSW SMaRT Centre Director Prof Veena was 'master of ceremonies' at the evening session of the Sydney Energy Forum, co-hosted by the Australian Government and the International Energy Agency, with the support of the Business Council of Australia.

The event was attended by Indo-Pacific ministers and business leaders for a 2-day forum to help secure clean energy supply chains in the region and support global energy transformation.

Attendees include ministers from the US, Japan, India, Indonesia and Samoa and the forum fosters connections among investors, business and government.

Focus is on innovations in clean-energy technologies, some of which are in research and development by the UNSW SMaRT Centre.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said: "The current global energy crisis has further emphasised the need for collaboration on energy security at the centre of the renewable energy transformation.

"Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: 'The outstanding list of international attendees for the Sydney Energy Forum is a global vote of confidence in Australia and our commitment to a clean energy future.' "

Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen and his Indian counterpart stepped out of the forum to visit UNSW's Solar Industrial Research Facility and follows the recent Indian and former Government delegation to UNSW where Veena talked about SMaRT's Green Steel and other technologies to help deliver clean and green industries.

Global political leaders and captains of industry, technology, innovation, investment and academia will come together on July 12-13, 2022, for a two-day summit to develop meaningful solutions to combat the climate crisis.

Led by the Australian Government, the Sydney Energy Forum will focus on developing at scale the new technologies critical to achieving global net zero goals, and overcoming the supply chain challenges standing in the way of achieving renewable energy outcomes across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
