Rakesh Joshi is a lecturer at the School of Materials Science and Engineering and a member of the SMaRT Centre. He completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in the area of functional nanomaterials. Prior to joining UNSW he was a Marie Curie International Fellow at the University of Manchester. Rakesh is on the editorial board of many journals and a RACI Chartered Chemist. He has developed experimental methods to prepare graphene, carbon nanotubes and semiconductors for various applications, and his breakthrough work on graphene oxide membranes is amongst the most influential contributions in the field of graphene-based filtration (R. K. Joshi et al, Science 2014). His research interest includes: 2D materials (graphene & metal chalcogenides); nanomaterials; advanced manufacturing of sustainable materials; desalination and water purification.
