International Sustainability Symposium
A key part of the inaugural World Resources Forum Asia Pacific, the International Sustainability Symposium (ISS), Green Manufacturing & University/Industry Collaboration, was organised by the SMaRT Centre at UNSW Australia, in association with the Institute for Sustainable Futures at UTS and the World Resources Forum, and hosted in Sydney by the Australian National Maritime Museum.
UNSW is leading Australia’s effort in ‘Green Manufacturing', an innovation developed to reduce the environmental burden of waste and enhance the competitive advantage in manufacturing.
The ISS brought together industry and research leaders from across the world to focus on the opportunities associated with increasing resource productivity and innovation in the circular economy, and to look at pathways for fostering new relationships between industry, government, universities, students and external stakeholders.
Speakers from Sweden, Japan, South Korea, India and Australia discussed green manufacturing and pathways to sustainability within the broader context of green materials and industrial processes.
The ISS also examined new research and industry successes with manufacturers including OneSteel and Brickworks, and discussed the outreach of innovative technologies including green manufacturing.
The wrap-up panel discussion summed up the importance of collaboration between universities, industry, government and community and the opportunities for shaping a sustainable future together.
